Synopsis
Locked in a cold red room, an orphan learns that being powerless need not mean surrender. Jane Eyre survives a cruel childhood and the rigours of charity school, then seeks a life of her own as a governess at Thornfield Hall.
Its brooding master, Edward Rochester, meets her candour with fascination. By the fireside, guarded exchanges become an intimacy neither expected. For Jane, who has never truly belonged, love begins to feel like home.
But laughter echoes upstairs. A bed catches fire. A visitor leaves wounded, and Rochester refuses to explain. As wealthy guests fill the house, Jane prepares to leave—until an unexpected proposal promises everything she has scarcely dared desire.
Then her wedding veil is torn in the night. At the altar, a stranger speaks, and their future breaks apart.
To stay would cost Jane her self-respect. To leave would mean facing the world alone. How much can she give for love without giving herself away?
