Synopsis

Born from stone, Sun Wukong defies Heaven and is buried beneath a mountain. Five centuries later, the monk Tang Sanzang frees him. To earn redemption, the Monkey King must protect his mortal master on a journey west to bring sacred Buddhist scriptures back to China.

Joined by the gluttonous Zhu Bajie, steadfast Sha Wujing, and a dragon prince transformed into a white horse, they cross a land where demons wear innocent faces and even a temple can be a trap. A white-bone demon tears master and disciple apart. Mountains burn. A queen offers a life far from the pilgrimage. An identical Monkey King turns certainty into doubt.

Wukong can shatter armies, but his staff cannot mend broken trust. Sanzang's compassion keeps them moving, yet leaves him open to deadly deception. Through eighty-one trials, this quarrelsome company must learn to stand together—or lose everything within reach of the sacred mountain.

Beyond the next ridge, another demon waits. They take the road again.
