Synopsis
Marseille, 1815. Edmond Dantès is about to become a captain and marry Mercédès when a false accusation sends him to the Château d’If. Behind stone walls, hope gives way to despair—until a fellow prisoner, Abbé Faria, uncovers the betrayal and reveals the secret of a hidden fortune.
After fourteen years, he escapes hidden in a burial sack and claims the treasure. His father is dead; Mercédès has married his rival. Years later, the men who buried him welcome a mysterious stranger into Parisian high society: the Count of Monte Cristo.
Armed with wealth, secrets and patient calculation, he turns their greed, ambition and buried crimes against them. Every favor draws the trap tighter. But as innocent lives become entangled in his revenge, a plea from the woman he once loved—and the devotion of Haydée, who has suffered her own betrayal—threaten his certainty.
He has the power to ruin everyone who destroyed him. Can he still choose who he becomes?
